The holiday of Cinco De Mayo, The 5th Of May, commemorates the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. Celebrating Cinco de Mayo has become increasingly popular along the U.S.-Mexico border and in parts of the U.S. that have a high population of people with a Mexican heritage. In these areas the holiday is a celebration of Mexican culture, of food, music, beverage and customs unique to Mexico.
The Friendship Center will be celebrating Cinco De Mayo in Willis on May 4th to both enjoy the festivities and partake in the experience of learning different cultures. The Friendship Center is home to many seniors with diverse ethnicities, cultures and socio-economic statuses. It is often interesting to share one’s traditions and family histories with friends, and the Friendship Center welcomes the opportunity to learn about these different cultures.
The Friendship Center would like to take this opportunity to welcome stories from our current clients as well as “new comers” that want to participate in the socialization and activities within our six locations.
